Med City Dental does not place the older style of silver (amalgam) dental fillings. Silver (amalgam) fillings need to have additional removal of tooth structure to mechanically “lock” the restoration in place. One of the other challenges with amalgam fillings is that they expand after they have been placed. This expansion can cause crack formation and fracture of the natural tooth structure. The material can also corrode and have less desirable esthetics.

Thankfully there are more modern and conservative materials in dentistry that are more natural in appearance and bring back strength and function. 

Composite bonding or tooth colored white fillings

Chipped, broken, discolored or decayed teeth may be repaired or have their appearance corrected using a procedure called composite bonding. A dental composite material with the look of enamel and dentin is applied into the cavity or upon the surface of a tooth, where it is then sculpted into shape, contoured and hardened with a high-intensity light. The result is a restoration that blends invisibly with the remainder of the surrounding tooth structure and the rest of your natural teeth to create a healthy, bright smile.
