How Does Botox Work?
Botox is a safe and FDA accepted neurotoxin treatment that blocks the release of a neurotransmitter that signals muscle contractions. Botox is administered into targeted muscles or nerves to temporarily paralyze the muscles and neurotransmission. This reduces muscle spasms, pain, and tension.
Botox is injected just under the skin using very fine needles similar to those used for insulin administration. Most individuals feel a slight pinch similar to a bee sting but not painful. Therapeutic benefits are not immediate and will start to see effects occur within one to three days. The full effect of therapeutic Botox injections may take up to two weeks. Botox results typically lasts three months.
What to expect
We know that everyone is different and every face is different. Therefore each individual will have a different treatment plan and recommended units of treatment and areas. Dr. Funke will spend time with you to discuss your concerns and he will work with you to create a treatment plan that is right for you.
Effects of BOTOX can take ten to fourteen days to see the full effects of treatment. Dr. Funke invites all patients back to make sure that the correct dose and desired effects are achieved! Results can be expected to last approximately three months at a time. Injection sites may have mild bruising that may last up to two days.
All of our products used are ordered directly from the manufacturer and properly handled and stored on site.
What Can Botox Treat?
TMJ Disorder
Therapeutic Botox injections relax specific facial muscles around the temporomandibular joint, reducing spasms. For patients experiencing chronic jaw pain, morning headaches, and jaw tension due to TMJ Disorder, Botox can be used in conjunction to splint therapy to bring significant relief.
Tension Headaches
Daily tension headaches not associated with TMJ Disorder may be the result of over reactive muscle contraction that eventually become chronically inflamed and contracted. Injecting Botox into targeted muscles in the base of the skull, temples, forehead, and face can relax the muscles for up to four months.
Teeth Grinding (Bruxism)
Patients who grind their teeth at night may wake up with chronic morning headaches or a painful jaw. Botox injections for bruxism relieve the pain and reduce inflammation while temporarily paralyzing the muscles to prevent teeth grinding.
